The idea of kids canopy beds began during the medieval era when castle bedrooms were big, drafty, and open to any pest that may have wanted to enter it. During the cold months of the year, heavy curtains were hung around all the beds in order to repel the cold air and keep in whatever little warmth was available. When it became warm, the heavier curtains were switched over to lightweight ones which served to protect the sleepers from unwanted pests.
